Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) was established through the collaboration of a group of physicians who aimed to create a modern private hospital that is accessible and capable of addressing the comprehensive healthcare needs of the public. The company is committed to positioning Bangkok Hospital as a healthcare organization that delivers international-standard services.

It started with a simple questionâyet one that carried enormous weight:
âWhy do so many Thai people have to travel abroad just to receive world-class medical care? Why canât we have a hospital like that here, in our own country?â
That question lit the spark. A group of visionary doctors believed that Thailand deserved its own modern private hospitalâone that was accessible, comprehensive, and capable of giving people the quality of life they truly deserved.
And so, on October 30, 1969, they founded Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Company Limited. Just a little over a year later, their dream took shape in the form of a hospital building on Soi Soonvijai, Phetchaburi Road. On February 26, 1971, Bangkok Hospital officially opened its doors, welcoming its very first patients.

In the early days, Bangkok Hospital was small, with only four main departmentsâInternal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Surgery, and Pediatrics. But the demand grew quickly. More patients came. More families placed their trust in the hospital.
Step by step, the hospital expandedâadding more doctors, more nurses, more beds, more departments. Standards of care were raised higher and higher, setting new benchmarks for private healthcare in Thailand.
And soon, one hospital wasnât enough.
The vision grew bigger: to bring high-quality healthcare to every region of the country. BDMS began building and partnering with hospitals nationwide, creating a network that would eventually connect millions of people to world-class treatmentâwithout needing to leave home.
What began as one hospital has now blossomed into seven major hospital groups under BDMS:
Bangkok Hospital Group
Samitivej Hospital Group
BNH Hospital
Phyathai Hospital Group
Paolo Hospital Group
Royal Hospitals in Cambodia (Royal Angkor International in Siem Reap, and Royal Phnom Penh in Phnom Penh)
And other affiliated hospitals across the network
Today, BDMS is home to 56 hospitals in Thailand and 2 in Cambodia.
But the mission has never been just about treating illnessâitâs also about preventing it, and helping people live healthier, happier lives.

In 2019, BDMS opened the BDMS Wellness Clinic on Wireless Road, right in the heart of Bangkok. This wasnât just another clinic. It was a new chapterâfocusing on prevention, lifestyle medicine, and empowering people to live life at their fullest potential.
And because life can change in a heartbeat, BDMS also built one of the most advanced 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Centers in the region. With cutting-edge equipment, expert doctors, and the BDMS Emergency Services (BES) unit, patients can be safely transported by land, water, or even airâwhether for routine emergencies or highly specialized care.
Today, BDMS is Thailandâs largest private hospital networkâand one of the Top 5 largest in the world.
Its success isnât just about advanced machines or world-class doctors. It comes from something deeperâthe belief that true healthcare cares for both body and mind, delivered with compassion, ethics, and integrity.
Because in the end, BDMS is about more than medicine.
Itâs about giving people back their most precious gift: the chance to live their happiest, healthiest life.
