Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) has announced a major milestone in advancing Thailand’s healthcare standards, as two hospitals within its network have achieved ICHOM (International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement) Level 2 certification. The achievement underscores BDMS’s strong commitment to delivering truly patient-centered care and creating meaningful value in treatment outcomes.
ICHOM is a global organization founded through collaboration among leading institutions such as Harvard Business School and the Karolinska Institutet. It aims to establish international standards for measuring healthcare outcomes by shifting the focus from traditional indicators—such as clinical processes or procedural statistics—to outcomes that genuinely reflect patients’ quality of life. These Patient-Centered Outcomes Measurements (PCOMs) include factors such as pain levels, mental well-being, and a patient’s ability to return to normal daily activities.
Following an assessment conducted in November 2025, two BDMS hospitals successfully attained ICHOM Level 2 certification, confirming their systematic approach to data collection and the effective use of outcomes data to continuously improve clinical care:
Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital received certification in Breast Cancer, with a strong emphasis on long-term patient outcomes. The hospital’s approach goes beyond eliminating cancer cells to include patient satisfaction with surgical results, psychological well-being, and recovery following chemotherapy.
Bangkok Hospital Pattaya achieved certification in two key areas: Stroke and Coronary Artery Disease. The hospital prioritizes reducing disability rates and maximizing patients’ physical function and independence after treatment.
This ICHOM certification not only represents a significant achievement for BDMS, but also marks an important step forward for Thailand’s healthcare sector in embracing Value-Based Healthcare—an approach that emphasizes delivering the greatest possible value to patients. By enabling physicians to compare outcomes and refine treatment strategies against global benchmarks, BDMS is helping ensure that patients receive not just effective medical care, but the best possible life outcomes after treatment.
