Neuro Science Simulation Course

Bangkok Dusit Medical Services

It is important for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to recognize major warning signs for stroke (e.g. weakness, numbness, changes in speech) because of the limited treatment window for stroke patients. Development of a stroke protocol that includes a program to educate staff about stroke warning signs and required treatments can greatly improve the treatment of stroke patients and save more lives.

Neuro Science Simulation Course

This training scenario program addresses opportunities for optimal stroke care in the acute phase. Healthcare professionals' ability to quickly and accurately identify patients at risk for having a stroke and to recognize stroke-type symptoms is important for safe and effective treatment. Stroke protocols in which stroke patients can be identified and triaged quickly may substantially reduce morbidity and mortality rates for this condition.

1 - Care of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patient with rt-PA with Endovascular Treatment (Stroke Pathway)

LEARNING OUTCOMES / OBJECTIVES

  • Recognize Stroke Alert (<24hr) and flow of stroke pathway.
  • Recognize acute ischemic stroke with NIHSS > 6 (R/O Large Vessel Occlusion) need to activate Endovascular Treatment (EVT) Team.
  • Prioritizes nursing interventions in the care of a patient with an ischemic stroke including IV rt-PA and Endovascular intervention preparation.
  • Recognize signs of IICP if ICH is suspected after IV rt-PA given.
  • Nursing management in patient post IV rt-PA and Endovascular treatment.

2 - Care of Traumatic Brain Injury Patient (TBI pathway)

LEARNING OUTCOMES / OBJECTIVES

  • Activate TBI pathway correctly(ER,OPD,ICU).
  • Recognize IICP sign(ER,OPD,ICU).
  • Prioritize nursing intervention in care of patient with IICP(ER,OPD,ICU).
  • Nursing management and nursing evaluation for patient with increasing ICP(ER,OPD,ICU).
  • TBI Work Flow.

3 - Care of Intra-Cerebral Hemorrhage Patient

LEARNING OUTCOMES / OBJECTIVES

  • Plan and provide care for patients with intracerebral hemorrhage who develops increasing ICP.
  • Anticipate diagnostic orders and therapies, including medications, for patients with intracerebral hemorrhage with increasing ICP.
  • Perform a focused neurological assessment on a postoperative craniotomy with ICP monitoring.
  • Prioritize nursing interventions in the care of patients with an ischemic stroke.
  • Nursing management for patients with increasing ICP.
  • Evaluate the patient’s response to nursing interventions for patients with postoperative craniotomy with ICP monitoring.
